At Fusion Medical Staffing, we know that temporary lodging can make or break an assignment. That’s why we offer allied health and travel nurse housing resources — from short-term rentals to extended stays to fully furnished apartments, our goal is to ensure that you have access to the best housing options that match your needs, preferences, and budget.
A housing stipend is a tax-free allowance provided to travel nurses and allied health travelers like you to help cover lodging costs during an assignment. The amount you receive is based on guidelines set by the General Services Administration (GSA), which factor in the cost of living for your assignment location, so you can find your home away from home on every travel job.
Short-term (move-in ready or turnkey) rentals (Vrbo, Airbnb, Furnished Finder, etc.)
Short-term leases are a popular option for traveling healthcare professionals looking for a homey atmosphere while on assignment. Platforms like VRBO, Airbnb, and Furnished Finder offer a wide range of fully furnished options, from cozy apartments to spacious homes, tailored to fit various budgets and preferences.

Pro tip: for stays lasting longer than two weeks, call the hotel and ask for a sales manager or director of sales to discuss a long-term stay. Explain that you’re offering help at the local hospital and see if they’re able to negotiate your rate.

All-inclusive housing
These 3rd party companies will find you an option, but they will also charge for their services.
Keep in mind that not all campsite resources will allow for booking campsites long-term. Also, bear in mind that set up can depend on the type of RV park or campground you are staying in. Some full-service parks will help you park and set up your RV/camper, but others may not provide that service or have that capability. It is always best to inquire about set-up before committing to a site, so you can plan accordingly. Below are a few examples of resources our travelers trust.
Furniture rentals
For help with furniture needs, call Cort at 1-888-360-2678 and mention you work for Fusion.
Search locally
Google search “property management,” call the local Chamber of Commerce and ask if they have a “list of landlords” or search the local paper for housing arrangements.
Facebook groups
Utilize Facebook housing groups or the Fusion travelers Facebook group to connect with other travelers who may have been to the areas you’re looking into. They may have recommendations for where to stay and what to do.
Craigslist
Still struggling to lock in housing? Consider booking a hotel for a week and once you get to town ask around for housing recommendations or search Craigslist.
Note: it's strongly suggested that you do not book Craigslist unless you're able to see the listing in person first.
We asked our travelers what advice they’d give first-time travelers and they delivered. Here’s what they had to say:
“Before signing a contract, look at housing in the area you are headed. Sometimes housing is hard to find and/or extremely expensive.”
"Take the time to research the area and surrounding areas before taking an assignment to ensure you can find housing and afford it.”
“Research, don't be afraid to reach out to companies about deals.”
“Call the facility or look online and find someone who has already been there for advice.”
“If booking a motel, find a place with reward points.”
“Ask for clarification on things like shared bathrooms, trash service, etc.”
“Stay within your budget, this is not a vacation.”
In regards to RVs and campers...
"There are a lot of resourceful groups on Facebook for RV healthcare travelers and Reddit can be a great resource for questions and leads."
"Facebook Marketplace is a great resource for finding private sites and local hosts. Do keep in mind renting private means you don't get the campground extras (bathhouse, pool, on-site laundry, etc.) But 98% of the time you get a private site and no one to bother you. So, pros and cons.”
“Have a place to sit outside. Camping can be a relaxing experience if you let it be.”
“Keep in mind a lot of campgrounds have a 10-year rule, meaning your camper can't be more than 10 years old, and that makes finding available spots hard”

This was my first assignment and I couldn’t imagine anyone being in my corner, more supportive, and promptly helpful than my recruiter was. They made me comfortable and worked with me to get a great assignment only four hours from home in a very similar city to what I grew up in. They made sure I was ahead of the game with all the steps and getting settled into housing. I cannot rate them high enough. Even further, their work as my recruiter played a MASSIVE role in my decision to keep traveling for the foreseeable future as I earn a masters online for health administration.

Radiology
My recruiter made sure I was set up with a hotel until the house was ready. Everything in the house that I required was there. She kept me informed and updated on my upcoming assignment. I was going to a strange town, and I felt she really cared about my success. I really appreciated her.

Nursing
Fusion finds me assignments that are right for me! My recruiter helps me with licenses and tries to help find me housing! I do really have the best of the best!

Long-term Care
Fusion helped me find and locate safe housing near my assignment.

Long-term Care
My recruiter has gone out of his way to keep me informed and always remembers to ask about my elderly mother who is currently in a memory care facility. He has helped me with housing issues several times now and makes sure I’m safe. He also works to make sure assignments go well and they provide everything I’m looking for in an assignment. Not only that, but he also is a very excellent listener!!!
